Can you install or modify a chair in a vehicle lockdown system?

Albion Mobility cannot remove or refit vehicle lock down systems for users.

If a repair to a chair requires the removal of the lock down system, the system must be removed and replaced by a qualified conversion specialist.

Albion Mobility appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience, but it is paramount that the safety of the end user is maintained. Albion Mobility’s technical team are not trained in the fitting of such devices. By the removal and refitting of these systems Albion Mobility could be deemed liable in the event of an accident.

What happens at a postural assessment?

Our Mobility Consultant will complete a full assessment with you covering your condition, your function, your existing provision and your requirements. They will bring a range of equipment for you to try. Based on your demonstration and the findings the Mobility Consultant will make recommendations and provide a no obligation quotation.

How long does it take to get my product?

Once you have placed your order, there is a 7 day cooling off period. Following this your order will be placed will the manufacturer and your estimated ship date will be confirmed. As a rule of thumb mobility scooters take between 1-2 weeks, standard wheelchairs build time 4-6weeks and Special/custom build wheelchairs 6-10 weeks. Please be aware as a result of ongoing of disruptions caused by the pandemic we have experienced ongoing stock shortages and lead times have been extended.

What does my warranty cover?

The manufacturer’s warranty period and conditions are recorded in your user manual. A manufacturer’s warranty covers manufacturing defects/faults only. In the event of a warranty claim the cost of your call out and any labour is covered by Albion Mobility.
Warranty does not cover:
• Wear and tear items (i.e. tyres and castors)
• Damage
• Misuse
Our Technician will generally make a decision on whether a claim is warranty at the appointment and will advise you accordingly. If you do not agree with our decision we can still make a warranty claim on your behalf. Please be aware the official decision on warranty claims will be determined by the manufacturer; they have the right to refuse any warranty claim they do not believe to be a manufacturing defect, in the event this occurs you will be liable for the cost of the repair.

Should I have insurance?

Although it is not a legal requirement, it is strongly advised to have insurance especially on powered equipment. Suitable schemes are not too expensive and are available to cover your personal safety, other people’s safety and the value of the vehicle. Insurance policies will normally cover damages not covered by warranty. You can also add on recovery cover and a puncture cover.

Do you offer a recovery service?

Albion Mobility do not offer recovery, we recommend investing in an insurance policy that offers recovery services. Generally the policy will arrange for you and your equipment to be returned safely home. If you decide not to invest in a recovery service, in the event of a breakdown we would recommend contacting a wheelchair accessible taxi to assist you.

How can I prolong the life of my batteries?

Looking after your batteries is vital to their performance. • Fully charge your batteries after every use, we recommend between 8-10 hours. • If you aren’t going to be using your product for a few weeks, charge it every two weeks to keep the batteries in good condition. • If you won’t be able to use your product for more than 6 weeks the best course of action is to disconnect the batteries, our Technicians can help you with this. • Don’t let your batteries go flat –this may result in damage to the cells of your batteries! • Only use the charger supplied with your product.
Things you should know: • Batteries are supplied in pairs. • Your batteries are safe to travel onboard an aircraft. • Cold & hot temperatures can affect the capacity of your batteries • The range quoted for your batteries in the promotional material is based on testing the product on a flat rolling road unladen. Rough/hilly terrain, temperature, and user weight will all have a all have a dramatic affect on the range available to you.

Should I be performing general maintenance?

On all wheeled products we would recommend tyres should be checked on fortnightly basis for visible damage (knicks, bubbles, & uneven wear). Pneumatic tyres should be inflated to the correct PSI which can be found on the side wall of your tyre, this is especially important for tyres with a puncture resistant lining. In the colder months ensure you perform your checks more regularly. Clear front castor wheels of debris, like hair and pet fur, to prolong the life of your castor.
On a monthly basis check that all of the wheels on your equipment run freely when spun. Powered wheels will not spin.

My condition has deteriorated and I’m struggling to propel my wheelchair, what are my options?

Well there are lots of options available to you; for manual wheelchair you may find that an adjustment to your chair might improve your propulsion. Alternatively; you could consider a power support; which would allow you to still propel for physical activity but reduce the strain. You may also which to consider moving to a power wheelchair, all of which we are happy to demonstrate and consider the benefits/negatives alongside you. For power wheelchairs we can make changes to your remote control tops and programming to improve your control.

My seating position has changed and I need more support, what is available to me?

Albion Mobility are specialists in Postural support in Scotland; whether you require a slight alteration or a full postural seating review we can support you. We can offer amendments to existing equipment to prolong the life span of your product.

Do I need to register my equipment with the DVLA?

If your scooter or power wheelchair meets the following criteria you must register your product: • Between 113.5kg to 150kg in weight • Can travel faster than 4mph, but no faster than 8mph. To register your product, send a V55/4 along with the certificate of newness to DVLA. You will be given a registration number in the same way as registering a car; there is no legal requirement to display a number plate on your mobility product. There is no road tax cost for mobility vehicles.
